Vanessa+Amil {Married in Portland!}

Vanessa and Amil were married on an autumn afternoon on the second of November, and while they were saying i do, people around the world were celebrating the Day of the Dead: making sugar skulls and building altars and dunking bread into small bowls of hot chocolate. After they said i do, the couple kissed in the courtroom, then made their way down the big white courthouse steps and finally exited out onto the downtown streets. They walked past the occupy portland block, past tall brick building facades and MAX trains; pedestrians cheered them on and taxi cab drivers honked in celebration. For a moment, they tried on Day of the Dead masks and stood still underneath a leafy orange canopy at Laurelhurst park, holding hands and looking up into the almost-winter sky. Then finally, the newlyweds hopped on their vintage scooter and rode off together into the November light and I could hear the laughter and rattle of the cans until they dissapeared around the corner…
