CORN DOGS AND COTTON CANDY. {VASHON ISLAND}
I have been going to Vashon to visit my aunt and uncle since I was a baby. My memories of this place go back as far as I can remember: riding the ferry and the thump of the boat as it docked; spending summer days carving trails through the woods; sitting out on the deck watching the sun slip behind the trees; sleeping in beds next to the great log walls of the house; watching deer through the giant windows in the living room; walking through rows of lavender and running down the now-paved-once-gravelled driveway.
We recently went up for the weekend, and after two years of being away, its like I never left. It was festival weekend, and the 10,672 islanders were in full swing. There was some dancing in the street, a few parades and an extraordinary amount of tye-dyed t-shirts. There was also cotton candy, blues-bands, corn dogs, arts and craft booths selling wind chimes and parasols, sno-cones, quilts for raffle, curly fries, and men with braided beards.
Maybe someday I’ll leave Portland and go live with my aunt and uncle on the island. I would camp out in their woods and eat strawberries all day and never put on shoes. I would find a pet deer and keep him near my tent to protect me and I would wear tie-dye shirts everyday.
*Thanks Tia & Tio for the best island festival weekend I have ever had. Next year i’m bringing the cantaloupe if you supply the ice-cream.
*These photos are all iphone captures because sometimes my 5d is just too damn heavy.

I love these! Are they you’re feet? I’m a bit obsessed with photographing my feet like that – I’m glad I’m not the only one.
