The Nelson Family Greatest Hits||Portland

The Nelsons love to break out into spontaneous song. When they came to Portland in December, we had a pre-holiday weekend which included a large ham, many different kinds of cocktails that involved eggnog, and a few Christmas carols. We baked sugar cookies and an apple pie and reminisced about pre-kid life, when it was just us four. Now when we are together, we are eight, and our voices fill up a room. When the Nelsons are around, everything is more harmonious and in-tune and there is always more music. Ma and Pa Nelson frequently take part in collaborative, impromptu song, which may or may not include limited rapping/rhyming and/or Tacoma-style beat-boxing. With brilliant lyrics and unstoppable beats, the Nelsons incorporate song seamlessly into all parts of the day and they have an entire collection of co-written numbers about common experiences in parenting. One of their classic hits is a song about taking a bath: (bath time!/bathtime!/ohmigoshbathtime!). Another number they have is a little diddy about going upsidedown: (upsidedown time/upsideDOWNtime!). Yet another talks about the fun a child can have while swimming: (pooltime!/pooltime!/ohmigosh pooltime!). There is talk of a record deal, but even if a greatest hits album doesn’t get cut, we are still the Nelson family’s greatest fans.
